Adapting Ridgid shop vac to dust collection hose?
#8
Does anyone have a link to a dust collection fitting or adapter to mate the 2-1/4" hose on my large Ridgid shop vac to a standard 2-1/2" dust collection hose or pipe (these are usually clear and it's what I have)?

The SO asked me today, "what are you going to do to day"? I said "nothing".  She said, "that's what you did yesterday"! Me, "Yes love, but I was not finished yet"!!!!!!!!

That hose usually just fits snug inside the pipe. Maybe not if it is thin wall pipe.

Huh, I didn't think to try that. I'll try it. If it's close, I can just seal with with some tape or some such.

I have a Ridgid shop vac that I use as a dust collector for my Ridgid table saw. You would think that Ridgid would have an adapter to connect one machine to another, nope. I made one out of simple PVC fittings. I glued the fittings together then " sized" them. To fit over the exhaust port on the table saw, I used a forstner bit to drill out the inside of the PVC fitting a little, a hole saw of the appropriate size would work as well. To make the other end fit inside of the shop vac hose, the fitting had threads on it. I took a file and filed down the OD just slightly until I need a snug fit. This was my second such setup. The first was made on a lathe where I used to work, it went much faster, lol.
I no longer build museums but don't want to change my name. My new job is a lot less stressful. Life is much better.

Rockler has this one,

or you could make an adaptor out of wood or PVC. Here are two examples, but there are many others on youtube which may work better for your situation.
