Pedestal vise
#7
I've had this base from an old dentist chair for a while and finally got around to finishing this project.
The biggest stall to the job was deciding which of the various vises I have would be mounted on it.

First I needed a wooden interface.

I chose this vise for the versatility with the rotating jaws.

I now can have the top of the vise jaws as low as 28" or as high as 46" the base rotates 360° and locks to prevent rotation.

Hope it can inspire more creativity.
Jim

Edit
Ok who changed the picture posting procedure. What did I do wrong? Obviously I figured it out, carry on.

Jim, that is a great idea!  I think I have the same vise, but no barber's chair.

That's outstanding......have a bandsaw mounted on a custom swivel base, to help me access it from a wheelchair, would also be great to raise/lower.

Will have to keep my eye open for such a base, can envision a few other applications.....

This is neat.  But you'll have to get in the habit, as you work on projects, of saying, "Open wide", "Now, this will sting a little", and "Hmmm." You'll know you've lost it when you start asking the workpiece, "Do you floss regularly?"
