Like traditional turning, you get a better surface turning downhill, even if you have to reverse and jump over.   Seen too many try to go end to end and suffer the consequences.
Better to follow the leader than the pack. Less to step in.

It all depends on the grind of the tool. lol I can set op for single pass with an iris steady as well but these are so short there is no need. "suffer the consequences"?Rough finish=improper cutting edge or control. Part blowing out= to much tool cutting too deeply at the same time more like a patterned scraper in parallel grain.
