Recycled old door casings, and recycled hinges, finished with Waterlox Original Marine Sealer(everybody seems to like the smell of the finish).

Love it. I'd never thought of using door hinges on a box.

Nicely made box and really nice hinges, but I am unsure they work together here.

I think that's called-- "thinking out of the box".

The box is more about the story than the aesthetics. Everything that was salvaged and something I built for him.

Neither boy has my inclinations for salvaging and wood working. They did not grow up watching This Old House and the New Yankee Workshop every Saturday.
In my younger days I was not very good at involving them, most of the work I did back then was practical "remodeling the house" stuff, not fun stuff like I do now.
They did acquire my love of hiking and being outdoors.
