I too have had ply catch and come back at me. There is 0 time to do anything about stopping it.

I had a 18" square cut off do the same thing. I kept this ragged-edged cut off and nailed it on the wall right next to where I keep my saw blade wrench. Makes me look at it everytime I change a blade.
