I hadn't heard that August Home had been sold. That explains why Don is listed as the General Manager.

I was at the headquarters about 15 years ago and I spoke to the owner it was a really cool place I was a stockbroker at the time and tried to sell him a $4 stock Wyman Gordon a hammer forge company that had the largest drop forge in the world, they made the engine mounts for the 747 it was bought out by Precision Castparts and is now owned by Berkshire That stock would have made him very wealthy but he already was. He is still involved as his tv shows are still produced by him. Omaha kid owns Berkshire Hathaway has done very well, Warren was all in for Hillary but is up about 15 billion since President Trump got elected! Nov 22nd was up 11 billion on Trump election.

People in Omaha bought Berkshire Hathaway the stock at $8.00 now it is $246,000 a share If they kept the stock most did and added to it they are all multi billionaires and their kids are billionaires.

that is why I said it the way I did

I had noticed the change of ownership wen I was looking at the publisher listed (Cruz Bay Publishing). A bit of trivia for those roughly my age. A TV show in the 60's called "77 Sunset Strip" starred a fellow named Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as the lead character (side note: they also had Ed Byrnes as "Cookie"). Anyway, the CEO of Active Media is Efrem Zimbalist III, his son.
I started with absolutely nothing. Now, thanks to years of hard work, careful planning, and perseverance, I find I still have most of it left.

I don't think Woodsmith takes outside submissions, but most of the other woodworking magazines do. Check out Popular Woodworking, WOOD, and Fine Woodworking, for starters.

+1

I looked at the Careers portion of August Home Publishing and they were advertising for a staff writer for one of their other magazines.  So, it appears they use staff writers across the board.  That approach might change after Don Peschke leaves the business (he committed to staying on full-time for 2 full years after August Home was sold), but for now, I suspect he's still very much in the driver's seat.  I'm kind of doubting he'd want to mess with a formula that works.  Since Woodsmith has always been about how to build something, with step-by-step instructions, I'm thinking that's much harder to do with outside submissions, where the article may not provide clear instructions, or uses a technique that is not common or easy to replicate for most subscribers.  In-house staff allows them to document the build process from design to finish.

they have too many "cooks" now.   Was nice when you'd see Archie, the building custodian, listed as staff.     No longer put holes in the magazine.

So the coolest program on tv in my childhood was 77 Sunset Strip! It was starring Effrem Zimbalist and Kookie who parked cars know for the expression "Kookie Kookie lend me your comb"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT9QZBGyXjU

Later Effrem Zimbalist jr. was in the long running series FBI. He was a lifelong friend of President Ronald Reagan.

Hie lived to be 95 years old and died watering his lawn.  Now his son  Effrem Zimbalist III  heads the parent company which owns Creative home group Cruz Bay Publishing which now owns Woodsmith. Holding company is active interest media and his son is Chairman! I am not sure if all these facts are totally correct but this is what it looks like to me.

I had forgotten the show "FBI". It was another one we used to watch.

He was tv. His son produces boat shows as well with Show management revenues of over 100 million a year. His Ft Lauderdale show annually produces more local revenue than the Super Bowl!

If you like boats watch this interview with Effrem Zimbalist III
