I love the utility of those hooks to go into a face vice and then get tapped down to hold boards for mortise work.
I think making them out of solid stock rather than some 3/4" stock with mitered "hooks" is probably unnecessary.
That being said I know that when I finally get my shop setup here in NC I will need to make some new bench hooks and I will probably makes some of these.
