Gentlemen,
I have been woodworking for for several years now without a woodworkers vise.
It is time to get one. I have seen the Yost and Eclipse choices on the web.
Before I make the purchase I would like to get some advice on a good one.
What would you recommend?

Do you need a tail vise or a face vise? Both are useful. I probably use my tail vise more often than my face vise, but it really depends on what kind of tasks you need to perform most often. I'm assuming you already have a workbench. If so, a face vise is more easily fitted to your workbench. Lots of outlets for them. Try Lee Valley. They have the best variety.

My go-to is an old Craftsman woodworking vise.

I had a 7" Groz vise and can't recommend it. I purchased a 10 1/2" Eclipse and I'm very happy with it, nice casting, works smoothly and built to last.
I don't know what it's like where you are, but here on the west coast, old record vises are rare as hens teeth and what does come up on craigslist etc is just rusty junk, that's why I chose new.
