Here we have two of what many, if not most woodworkers consider the very best woodworking braces ever made..They were good enough for the most demanding service by the linemen of "the Bell System" so they have to be good to enable a man to drill a 3/4" hole through a 12"/16" creosote pole top in order to mount a crossarm, all the while standing on what linemen referred to as "hooks" which were strapped to their boots and spiked into the pole...I would classify both braces as "flawlessly excellent" altho the brace on the left is "more excellent" and just a tad below "mint"..It is marked North Brothers with the "Yankee" logo on the knob..the one on the right is marked Stanley...Stanley thought they were the best braces ever made also, and so they bought the company and made them for the market as well as the Bell System....These braces are the 2101A and both 12" swing, which you need for the bigger bits, especially when working in hardwoods...The brace on the left is $50.00 and the one on the right is $40.00, but as I said, they are both excellent and you will not be disappointed with either, should you choose to purchase one...The higher priced brace is just a little brighter cosmetically with no apologies. Prices do not include shipping but they will fit in a medium flat rate priority box, which is the best way to ship them due to the weight....As with most well maintained vintage tools, they will very likely outlast you AND your grandchildren, and only get more valuable as time goes by...I remember when these braces would sell on the used market for ten dollars or so, and now you can see the exact same braces on ebay that have sold for as much as two hundred dollars!!!!!!
