Here is an exceptionally nice Disston No. 7 crosscut saw from the 1878-1888 period. The plate had very little rust, so it was polished and waxed to restore the shine. The etch is very strong. It was enhanced with gun bluing to improve contrast.
The lamb's tongue handle is in as-found condition. It was lightly cleaned and waxed only. The quartersawn beech wood shows some very nice flecking. There was a clean crack through the lamb's tongue, though it was repaired by gluing and a couple of steel pins. A previous owner had inserted a wood screw through the thick part of the handle to reinforce it.
The plate itself has been shortened by a couple of inches, to 24 inches, since the nose had some wrinkles. The plate was originally 9 ppi, though the teeth were in poor condition. To go with the newly shortened plate, it was retoothed to a 10 ppi crosscut tooth profile. With 15 degrees of rake, 25 degrees of fleam, and a light set, it cuts fast and clean.
Price: $85 plus shipping.
Payment: PayPal preferred. Other forms of payment will be considered.
Shipping: I generally ship the same day or the next business day after receiving payment. I always compare the cost/service time between USPS, UPS, and Fedex to get the best price. There is never a charge for handling or packing, unless there is an unusual amount of effort required (like shipping a delicate item internationally).
