Wood stabilizer for spalted wood?
#13
A nice 4#cut of super blonde shellac will firm up the delignified (white) areas after sanding.  Bugs don't count, spalt is a fungus or group of fungi, so no worries. What could give you problems is getting a good surface when sanding.  You have to hang over from firm wood and not sand the white without spanning.  Else it dishes in.

If the areas of delignified wood are too large, go with a product like the Minwax before sanding.

The RotFix is good, but I think this stuff is even better.

I have used both.  There is a place for both.  I prefer the RotFix for situations where the damage is more superficial.  The CPES is better for situations where I want maximum penetration.
