Wood choices
#3
I'll be making a couple end tables in a mission or arts and crafts style. I've had great luck with quarter sawn red oak in the past but my material this time will be 1/2" thick. I would hate to buy 4/4 lumber in red oak again and leave so much in saw dust when planed down to 2/4. Can anyone suggest another wood that will be more cost effective and still have that tight grain?

Can you buy 6/4 and resaw it?
