Drill Press Swap, HF/PM?
#21
That Powermatic will have 6" of stroke and the HF almost certainly has less.  I have almost never had to move the table when the drill press has 6" of stroke.  I bought a table raising mechanism on ebay for my PM 1150 a year ago and I have yet to even install it.

Regarding your missing parts, i read on another forum that old USA-made Powermatic parts are available from Redmond Machinery. They bought all of the remaining parts from the US factory when it closed.

Kind Sir,
Might you be willing to post a pic of said "table raising mechanism" and/or post a link to it, or send the link to me in a Private Message? Seeing a properly designed/manufactured unit may serve to inspire me to build my own or simply purchase one, if not outrageously priced. Maybe you want to sell the one you have, if I like it?
Thank You,
Gene

Big eek

Ya know every time Menards has their bag sale I strive to do at least that. It only comes off the rails if you try to lift the bag

Table lift problems: Grab the back and front of the table. Lift with 60% on the back and 40% on the front edge. slightly twist the table when doing this. It lifts easily this way.

Raising and lowering the table is short term. Its the rigidity of the machine that's important when drilling holes. It also has a 6" quill throw so that precludes a lot of table adjusting. "five dollar socket set" drill presses usually have a 3" throw.

The Powermatic 1150VS sold for the same thing the Powermatic 66 table saw did throughout the time they were both available. The step pulley models with the non-adjustable tables were about 25% less, so at its worst, that's a $2000.00 drill press.

Wait til you see the 1150 in person... Then you'll realize this is a silly question.  Makes the HF press look a toy.

This one seems to have the geared table riser;  http://www.vintagemachinery.org/photoind...px?id=8630

General search;  http://www.vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex...=655&tab=3

Parts show different ones for the 1150- as in 1150-a, 1150-b and so on.  http://www.ereplacementparts.com/powerma...02334.html

I have a PM1150, love it. Hunk of iron and I could just about chuck up my old C'man drill press in it!

I bought a trailer jack to raise and lower the table.
