So the dimensions are 1.75" diameter and 9/16" deep. I ended up using a 0.5" then 0.75"then a 1" forstner bit. That is the largest I have. Then came the Dremel tool and then some sandpaper. I an actually quite impressed with how well it came out. I also then had to label it for her so I put the school logo and the band on the back.

You could definitely hear the castanets over the band at the concert last night. The director loved them so I guess they were a success. I also noticed I posted 2 of the same photo. Here is the photo with the logo on the back. I could have made other glaring mistakes but a simple logo on the back would have made up for it.
