Exactly. Im betting your issue is the gfci. I hate them just as much as afci... In the real world they cause lots of problems and nuissance trips. They are essentially the same thing as well now. 

        Like mentioned GFCIs degrade over time and there are many cheap ones. Also if you have to have one,  use one rated for outdoor use.

If the continuity test proves out, then replace the outlet.
