Baltic birch plywood from the borgs?
#11
I have seen it posted on here that you can get baltic birch plywood from the borgs.  When I search on HD's site, I cant find any.  When I search on Lowes site, I can't find anything, no matter what it is, so I figure bb ply is not going to happen either.

I figure that's my best bet, because wood dealers are fairly far away and I can't transport, so I'd have to rent a truck.

You can Appleply (appleply.com) but I think they cut it down, may not suit your needs.
I started with absolutely nothing. Now, thanks to years of hard work, careful planning, and perseverance, I find I still have most of it left.

I get BB ply from Menards, complete with the cyrillic stamp, no stamp it's not BB ply. Things to look for I also buy the smaller sized cuts from Rockler when on sale, it is possible to get a piece without the stamp as they are just sawn up 5x5' panels, you could get a piece where it wasn't stamped, usually only 1 per piece. The absolute check at Lowes and HD will be the voids. If the edge voids are big enough to park a car, it's Chinese crap. BB edges will have VERY FEW edge voids if any at all. Patches will also be consistent with the link. I have talked to the Pro desks at both Lowes and HD to special order BB Ply and they can, that is how I get mine from Menards because even when they stock it the hillbillies who go through beat the devil out of it, doing some kind of bizarre hillbilly rituals.

Crazy

I don't do HD or Lowes because Menards is usually 25% lower priced.

Plus yes Menards can get you Appleply, Marine ply, and just about any ply/sheet goods you can imagine, you might have to wait 3 to 5 days for it though. I generally buy 30 to 50 sheets at a time, and for that much I have it delivered. It's worth it to my back not to have to hump that many pieces of ply at one time. I have found through doing this, that the overall quality of the materials has gone up 10 fold opposed to just getting a sheet or two ordered in. On the Appleply, and BB they wrap the goods inside of loser sheets of CDX ply and shrink wrap the entire doings so it doesn't suffer the hillbilly fate. Lower prices, better material, and pretty quick to my door. I kinda like it. Plus the actual sheets they give me appear to have been "picked" as opposed to just throwing the top POS on my pile to get rid of it. I'm going on the thought they are saying this guy is a good customer (big order), we want him to be happy. Until I get disappointed, that is how I will proceed.
Worst thing they can do is cook ya and eat ya

Avoid big box stores for quality plywood. Instead order from a reputable specialist. Since you can't transport it yourself, you will be limited to those who are willing to deliver to your area.
Wood is good.

If I could find a specialist that was willing to cut, that would work.  I can get 2' by 8' sheets in my vehicles.
Unfortunately, we don't have Menards anywhere near, just lowes and HD.

We have a hillbilly population, as well as college students and professors, they all pretty much have the same lumber-mishandling rituals as far as I can tell.

I order whatever BB ply I need from my local ACE lumber yard and the price isn't bad with delivery usually in 3 or 4 days.  You must have a full service lumber yard somewhere not too far away.

Eric, I'm asking a friend that lives in Butler, I'll post his answer.
I no longer build museums but don't want to change my name. My new job is a lot less stressful. Life is much better.
