a bump key is a key made for lock picking.  It has an equal bump for each cylinder.  It works because when you smack the bump into the pins, they jump.  On the return, the half of the pin on the inside of the cylinder returns faster, causing a gap that lasts long enough that you can turn the cylinder.  You can find videos on youtube about bump keys.

Of course, it's probably safer for a prankster to just have some bent up paperclips

Now that I learned about this, I'm thinking it would be wise to get pick resistant locks for my house.
