This, my friend, has been my back up plan all along. I just preferred a more "accurate" fix... but the wood will work.

 Use accurate wood.

If the cast top is thick enough, you can drill and tap a hole to accept a 1/4" screw through the top and above the arbor. It would have to be counter sunk.
