Door latch / strike plate alignment - hinge shimming OK?
#12
I tried washers on the bottom hinge, and it moved the lever strike ever so slightly. However, the deadbolt was binding up, so I decided to just get rid of the washers.

I installed the deadbolt myself (it wasn't there when we moved in) and I only used a Forstner-drilled hole for the bolt recess. I was accurate when I did it so I didn't need to chisel out the rectangular recess. I could do that now without needing to move any plates. It works now, but the lever doesn't have a satisfying "click" when closed. The bolt travel is smooth and that's what provides the actual security, so I guess that's a non-issue.

I'm beginning to realize this is just me being anal more than anything.
