I am putting in a backup camera and I need to tie a 22g wire into the reverse wire on my hitch. I think it is 16g. I was going to use a scotch lock but I am not sure that is the right way. I can soder it but will be quite a pain due to location. What is the right way to do it?

The blue ones fit the 16g wire but not the 22g and the red ones are the other way around ,

Anything short of soldering will eventually corrode and cause problems sooner or later in my experience.

If you are going to do this solder a 16 ga extension on the 22 ga wire or whatever is the wire size is. Put silicone grease in the connector before insulating to keep moisture out. Be careful with the Scotchlock type connectors as they can cut the existing wire. Not a big fan of that type of connector but sometimes they are needed. Roly

I’d try a Wago lever nut. Normally indoor use, but what the heck, I’m a trailblazer.

Step down butt splice. I believe the 2nd one down is what you're looking for.

Then coat it with Liquid Electrical tape:

I would think you would want to tap the back up lights instead of cutting it off in case you would ever need them. Roly
