I don't understand the concern.  

So long as you don't scrape it off and eat it, or sand it and make it a point to breathe the cloud of dust, it's not going to be a problem.   It's an inanimate substance, it won't reach out and gitcha when you're not looking.

If you just need to do "something", daddo's encapsulation suggestion is the most practical.
