I bought one of these designs of E-Bay way back in the day.
I would stick with a KREG. If only one or two holes to make this would work, but when you have a lot you will get tired of that tightening screw.

Cut the back off and add a bimba pneumatic cylinder.

the Kreg 2 hole starter kit is on special at Woodcraft. They include a clamp. Probably more useful to more people, albeit at twice the price

Here is my brand "X" jig from about ten years ago. The clamp made the thing really easy to use. I bought this particular unit because the spacing between the holes could be adjusted to suit my needs(?).
This thing has worked really well over the years and and seen a lot of use. The big plus is that it was considerably cheaper than the one with "THE BIG" name.
