Wood absorbing finish like crazy
#2
I am refinishing a small wardrobe that I believe is from the 1930's. There are 3 small drawers made of solid wood.
The fronts were in bad shape, so I sanded off all of the stain and finish down to bare wood.
I stained them yesterday with Transtint water based dye.
Today I applied Minwax Tung Oil finish with a foam brush. The drawer fronts appear to be drinking up finish as fast as I can put it on. Some the whole face and others along the grain. I usually use Arm R Seal and when applying the first coat, I add more finish until it stops absorbing it.
Was following this with the Minwax but couldn't get any of the drawers to form a film.
Is there anything I am overlooking? I know there are plenty of mistakes I haven't made yet.
Plan on putting on another coat tomorrow to see if
