Is anyone here an expert in scroll saw use & lore? I just saw a promo for the new Jet scroll saw and I'm interested. I've been thinking about getting a scroll saw for a few years, but haven't found the one to make me jump. I saw a presentation last spring and the presenter used an older Excalibur. He had & had used some more expensive saws, but felt that the Exaclibur was the best all around choice and a no brainer when it came to bang for the buck. I heard that there is some significant back story drama about Excalibur, but at the end of the day, you can go to Canada and get an Excalibur or in the US buy a King Industrial and it's the same tool. Great solution if you want a 16", but I was thinking the flexibility of something bigger would would maybe come in handy. Problem was the woodcraft King Industrial offering stopped at 16" and a trip to Canada needs more justification than buying a tool
Anyway... Looking at the King XL-16 vs the Jet JWSS-18B, it sure looks like the big brother off the same line. Maybe It's been there all along and I never noticed. Anybody know more about this?

ive been scrolling for quite a while. burned through a crapsman pretty quick, then 2 dewalt 788's. currently own an EX16 thats been a workhorse for the last 4 years with the only problem being a recently replaced VS control.
my own opinion for you would be to look into seyco

you will not find customer support for scrollsaws that can come remotely close to what ray provides.
steve good is quite well known and repsected in the SS community. heres a review he gave of seyco SS

Wow! I hadn't seen the Seyco before. I've got an Excalibur that I'm very happy with but the Seyco looks like a definite upgrade. I didn't see a price anywhere - anyone know what they cost?

I have always thought the Hegner was as good as they come...

Hegners are excellent saws. Built like a tank and practically bullet proof, by the accounts of those who own them. They are a bit more expensive than the Excalibur/King/Jet Seyco type saws. RBI Hawk is also an excellent saw. American made and like the Hegner, built like a tank and bullet proof and also expensive.
I started out with a Craftsman about 20 years ago. I upgraded to a DeWalt after a few years and then sold it and upgraded to an EX-21 a couple years ago. There is some back story as to what became of the Excalibur. It disappeared from the market for a while. Apparently there were problems between General Tool (owner of the EX name) and the Asian factory that was making them. The void was quickly filled with the Seyco and the Jet. More recently, the Ex came back onto the market, now made by a different Asian factory.
Each of the saws you mentioned share some similar characteristics and also some subtle differences. I don't recall all of them, but here are links to a couple scrolling forums that have had a lot of threads about these saws over the past year or so.

Also, noted authority and popular scrolling blogger, Steve Good did a review of some of the new saws.

His YouTube channel has reviews also.

Hopefully this helps. Good luck.
