The single-lever faucet with sprayer has started clunking when the water is running. Must the the diverter valve for the sprayer. Something must need to be replaced. What would that be? The whole faucet, or some part?

No idea which faucet you have, but I'll wager that you need do no more than pull apart a few connections, and clean them out.... unless it's a 40 yr old fixture; at which point I'd suggest you already got your monies worth, and you should just buy a newer model.
