I haven't built this one but I wouldn't expect any problems with the plans. Woodsmith is very good in that area IMHO.
Looks like Oak in the picture, is it? I think I'd use Cherry myself but that's just my preference.

They called for mahogany in theirs; I'll likely use cherry with cherry burl veneer on top.
Phil,
She's already got a lot of jewelry. This one will be easy to fill on the cheap. Then she'll ask for another, I'm sure, for all the jewelry I'll need to buy next.
