Thanks!  It's fun.

The core material is 2x8 doug fir framing material from Lowes.
It's cheap to practice on.....but I have a number of prototype boxes
that came out really nice because of the wild grain it produces.
The veneer is some old walnut and pine.  That is 3/4" stuff.
After I cut and glue up the patterns, I resaw to 3/8" for a front
and back of a box.

Thanks for that info. Working on a whole set of kitchen cabinets for my daughter right now. When I get that finished along with a couple of segmented bowls and vases that have been put on hold due to the cabinets I really want to try a few of those. They really are eye catching and some of the best work of that kind I have ever seen. I'm sure there will be a learning curve on those, but I'll give it a try. Probably make some firewood before I get one that is acceptable. I would be happy if I could even come close to the ones you have shown. Doubt if that will happen untill I have made quite a few.

I certainly have produced some fine firewood out of my shop.....
There is usually a time lag between being thrown in the firewood box
and making it up stairs to the stove.....
So, as it gets tossed into the fire there is always a.....
oh, yea.....fixed that mistake.....won't make that mistake again.....
learning experiences.

Those are cool.  I have a bunch of small logs and was wondering what to do with them.  Thanks for the idea.  I have made a couple in the past but just forgot about them

Do all of the ideas for these come from you, or do you get patterns from somewhere?

The ideas come from all over the place.
Just Google band saw box.

One can see many things by observing.  Yogi Berra

All the patterns come from here:

.....downloaded to here:

Building techniques come from hanging around places like this.
There are YouTube vids on how to do just about anything.
Watch the vid, head for the shop and start drawing....
and cutting.
The rest comes from the abyss of my imagination.

I've been playing around w/the cell phone box.

Just change the size, add the pattern veneer and roll top.....

I have never downloaded a pattern from anywhere.

Thanks for the reply. You have an excellent mind for designing all of these yourself. I am sure when I get around to trying them I will watch some youtube and shamelessly do my best to copy them. At least at first.

Remember jr /sr high school mechanical drawing.....AKA drafting.
T squares, mechanical pencils, rapidograph pens doing ink on mylar.
Orthographic/isometric/oblique/ projection, drawing gears and sheet metal patterns.....
by hand.
Architectural drawing.
No CAD.
That got me through high school.
