Very nice.   I would have like to see how he marked out the pins for the top. It looked like he did not mark the tails at all, just started chopping and spaced them and angled them by eye.

I love to watch these old guys work.  Especially the old village grandfather make something from nothing over and over.

Yeah, you can tell it wasn't his first time with the tools.

Very expensive.  Like everything else.

But that guy sure has some talent.  I doubt I ever would have started woodworking if I had to hold the workpiece with my feet while sitting down.  Even if I could have done it at one time, which is doubtful, there's no way I could now.

Amazing what can be acomplished with hand tools and years of experience. I have never been a hand tool guy, but can definitly appreciate workmanship like that. I believe he is probably much more into the process than I am using power tools. I would have a hard time and a very slow process to do anything like that even using power. If I had to do it sitting on the floor I would need some kind of mechanical lift to get back on my feet He is a true craftsman.

I try to use hand tools as much as I can, as I enjoy the whisp of the tools and the quiet in the shop.  I like the fact that they don't throw dust everywhere, and you have more control.  But, with my arthritis, I do resort to the jointer, planer, and the rest when I have to.

Think this is a redistribution of a series focusing on traditional crafts near Kyoto.

Sort of feels like watching Frank Klausz work, except my hip starts to twinge when I consider the foot clamp...
