Code is minimum. I wirenut both neutral and hot. It is what I do and have done for 43 years.

My apology for disappearing.  I had a family emergency, involving a long trip, and the post just dropped off my radar. I'll check the responses tomorrow when I will demonstrate my ignorance regarding electricity. ;>)  Thanks.
