Can I wipe on water based finishes?
#15
I like to apply my water-based urethane finishes over a coat of Zinnser Seal Coat Shellac whether spraying or brushing.
Any free advice given is worth double price paid.

My compressor has a 10 gallon tank. I had a 100# propane tank just sitting there that I did not use. Unscrewed the top and added fittings to make it an extra tank. When I need it I just hook a hose to the in and outfeed fittings. Does take more time to fill but works great and is not in the system unless I need the extra volume.. That thing is a lot stronger than any tanks I have ever seen on a compressor. I do see them on craigslist every now and then for cheep

I've wiped on General Finishes polyurethane (https://generalfinishes.com/wood-finishe...hane-water) with a bit of their extender added (https://generalfinishes.com/wood-finishe...s/extender). It worked pretty well.

What do you use to apply your finish?  I do a mix of wipe on and spray on finishing.  When wiping on, i like to use old panty hose to apply it.  I find it works better for me than using a foam or fiber brush but that's just a personal thing.  In all fairness I prefer to spray finish if at all possible.  One of the HF gems is the purple HVLP gravity gun, it works well even with a pancake compressor and is fairly inexpensive.  Only thing I'd recommend is get rid of the plastic can and replace it with the metal one HF sells.  I've used professional rigs in a commercial setting in the past, but this is the setup I use at home.
