Pergola Roofing
#2
Good morning
I am building a pergola over our patio.
It is roughly 15x15.
there will be 6x6 posts at the corners and middle of each side.
in order to have a 7ft heads pace at the low end, the rafters, purlins and corrugated polycarb can add up to no more than 6 inches. The posts on the house side are supporting the dining room (which used to be a deck) and the dining room overhangs the post by 2ft. So the high end needs to fit up under this.

So I could use 2x6 rafters and notch them out for 2x4 purlins.
I am wondering if I could use 2x4 rafters and 2x4 purlins in a 12x12 grid layout. That would be more wood but not all that notching.
I know 2x4 can span 8ft.
does this sound like a viable option?
Thanks
