Union re-run on the X plane

As seen on Saw Mill Creek at https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?...e-X-planes:

"I stumbled across a Union manufacturing website and it looks like they are going to remanufacture the X series of planes.

"I didn't realize they were still making planes. Not cheap though."

This was noted a while back. Looking at the history page, the company was reopened by the current owners. It surprised me that the original (?) closed in 1986. I hope it works out.
Heirlooms are self-important fiction so build what you like. Someone may find it useful.

I think I'd wait awhile. Their home page shows a pic of a batch of chassis casting rejects that they are offering for $40 each.

It seems a bit shifty that the plane on their web page is an original; not what they asking $275. for.  My guess is they have not yet completed a new plane.  Perhaps I missed it in my plane collecting days, but was Union ever a sought-after brand?  Should a reproduction be worth more than an original, keeping in mind that Lie-nielsen is not really a reproduction, but rather a better product in every way?

I wish would be makers would pour their creative juices over untilled soil and make something that adds capability to the hand tool landscape. I'm sure they will sell tools to collectors and curious folks, but we need another well made smoothing plane on the market like we need a new minivan manufacturer or pick up truck manufacturer.

Just my opinion. Wish them well tho, whoever they are.

That’s a great suggestion. I’ll keep that in mind for new designs.
