Christmas in the Trenches
#6
I just heard John McCutcheon's CHRISTMAS IN THE TRENCHES for the first time, although I have heard the story several times and seen it portrayed in movies a couple times. A must hear if you have any feelings about war. Not ashamed to say, I was never in the military, but several generations of my family were. I still have tears in my eyes as I write this. I hope you enjoy this special Christmas story.

It's one of my favorite songs. Another one of my favorites by him is "Forgive Us".

Very moving song....I have never heard it before but I am pretty familiar with the story...I could never understand how guys could kill each other in savage ways one day, stop killing the next and meet together in an undeclared truce to sing and exchange needed items with one another, then next day go back to killing...I suppose tho, that both forces were of the same religion and that may have been the difference between their war and mine,.

I read somewehre that after that day the kill/wounded numbers dropped to near zero. That the soldiers intentionally shot over the heads of their opponents. Don't remembber where I read that.
