What kind of tool are you talking about? When I google Dunlop #3, I get hits for tires, golf clubs, and guitar picks. But nothing that looks like a tool.

I'm presuming he means something like this...

If you are going down a river at 2 mph and your canoe loses a wheel, how much pancake mix would you need to shingle your roof?

Really only worth what someone will pay for it.

A DuckDuckGo search for "Dunlop" provided "Dunlap" planes:

eBay has some for around US $25.00

A 2007 Saw Mill Creek thread claims a more economical plane -- cheaper than the Craftsman line -- made for Sears by various manufacturers

Basically, a step up from "handyman" quality, and a couple of steps down from Craftsman branded MF and Stanley versions. Some can be ok users, others stinkers requiring a lot of fettling to do good work. I got sucked into the rabbet hole of fettling one, and after that generally pass on them as there are plenty of Stanley, MF and Sargents out there that are, IMLTHO, more worthy of attention. Funny, the ones I see are always in very nice condition....

Reminds me of what a now deceased antique firearm shooting friend would say about a nice looking antique firearm: "Didn't work out for the original owner."
