Have you made a parsons table?

There are various table styles called “Parsons” but I’ve been asked to make one with the legs protruding through the top. From the pictures I see online, to looks as if expansion/shrinkage would force the legs apart or the top would pull away from the legs, leaving an unsightly gap. How do you guys handle this?

Plywood top would work
solid wood will, have to have room to expand or it will probably self destruct

I assume the top floats, and does not connect to the legs.

Stoppy, I had previously seen the YouTube link. Thanks for including it. That video shows a worst case, since he makes no allowance for expansion. He simply screwed the tap to the aprons. In the comments section, other viewers indicate that he should expect his table to fail.
