Walnut trees cut down, need to pick them up and store
#15
We are still working on logistics. We will have a trailer with a winch. And a tractor on the offloading end. One of the logs is about 9 feet and is more than 24 inches diameter.

Most millers like the logs green. The greener the better.

You do not say where you are or where the logs are.

Because of thousand cankers disease of black walnut, there are multiple geographic quarantines for black walnut.

Some of those quarantines are for removing the wood from the zone and some are for moving it into a zone that has not been impacted yet.

For example, the last time that I checked, one was not allowed to move black walnut out of the Richmond, VA, quarantine zone unless the wood has had the bark removed and has been kiln dried.

Even driving a truckload of black walnut logs through a quarantine zone is a violation.

+1 on the AnchorSeal. Adding a fresh coat after 4 or 5 months might be a good idea if you are going to wait 12mo.

Based on my experience with pecan logs, you don't want to let your stack of logs get buried in leaves come fall.

Thanks for the note about the quarantine zones. All of this is taking place in central Iowa. I will look into any local issues about quarantine or diseases.
