As I recall, the early Wixey's were subject to very quick battery drain.  I believe they fixed that problem in later models.  The one I have still has the same battery it came with.  I've never removed it.  I haven't used it in a while, but the last time I did, it worked fine and the battery was at least a few years old.
If you are going down a river at 2 mph and your canoe loses a wheel, how much pancake mix would you need to shingle your roof?

I don't remember when I got my Wixey; has to be at least 14 years ago.  I've never experienced the battery drain issue others talk about.  I've only replaced the battery a couple of times in all those years.

I had the original Wixey. After a few years it became inconsistent. I went back to using my (no batteries needed) Starrett and Woodpecker devices.

Had a Wixey for a short time ... it died at an early age ... bought a Tilt-Box ... never looked back.
