Hand adze

Any good recommendations?

I would like to try my hand with chair making soon and I am putting together a toolkit.

Barr Tools. Specifically the Mike Dunbar Style Gutter Adz. Hand forged and very high quality. I have his chairmakers draw knife and it's top notch.

There’s what appears to be a nice one in here…

But I have a history of spending too much time making tools rather than making stuff with the tools.

I saw the Dunbar on and I didn't want to have to bend over to use it.

The one Chris Buchanan uses looks perfect but I can't find it anywhere. Chris Schwartz uses one that looks great but he said it was $400, which was a bit more than I wanted to spend.

Check out Jason Lonon. He makes nice adzes if he has any in stock. I own several of his tools and they are first rate, well finished and hold an edge.

That's interesting.  In this video, it appears his adze is pretty much the same configuration as the Dunbar - he just elevates and tilts the seat blank to stand up while using the adze.

I think I may of had a brain fart, I saw Mike Dunbar using one on his video and he was standing over the seat, I just assumed that was what you were talking about.
