City water and sewer charges for the water you dump waiting for hot water adds up fast; as does heating water you don't use. A recirculating pump activated by a motion sensor will, in most cases, have hot water at the tap before you need it. The energy savings might be enough to be noticeable too as you'll be adding at least room temperature water to the heater vs. cold tap water.
