It woke me up?

Time for a PIP?

Lid has been installed, magnetic catch works...all outside wood and the underside of the lid, are now stained...a look at the lid, first?

Remember, this was a 2 board, book-matched glue up..next a look at how the hinge side turned out...goal was to almost hide them..

Came close?   Then a look around up front...to where a rare earth magnet sits in the lid, and contacts a metal plate. mortised into the top edge of the box..

Arrow points to the latch.   Wipe this all down...there are four round feet glued into the bottom of the box...

1/4" forstner bit for the hole to glue these into..one per corner.

A second wipe down...then a coat of Amber Sheelac...for now...

Not too much of a change..maybe a hair darker....might make the splines stand out a bit better?

Maybe a second coat?    Light sanding, then a coat of clear gloss poly?

May or may not make a tray for the insides...haven't decided..yet..

Might be too busy rehabbing 7 handplanes....

Ok, second coat of clear gloss poly has dried, and been rubbed down...So..here we go..Front view..

A look at the back/hinge side.

Open the lid?  Showing corner details, and the high-tech latch..

Was trying to get the grain to flow all the way around...

Like I simply "folded" the board into shape...

And the splines would then just look like the "barrels" of a hinge...

If I do another one like this....I might extend the splines a bit...to look just like a hinge was used...

Wasn't enough room to add a tray to the inside...I think I can just call this box...Done?

Thanks for looking in..
