A very nice piece of something spalted, I think oak. I turned the outside months ago. Today I got the inside turned and got about 80% of the sanding done, I only had to turn off the tenon on bottom and sand about a 5" diameter circle around where the tenon was. Just about the time I am thinking I should leave a foot in case the bottom is too thin, I turn through the center of the bottom. After investigating, it is really too thin for about 5 or 6". I am going to see if some 3/4 walnut is thick enough for me to turn out the entire bottom, then glue in the walnut. I will have to plan for a tenon to turn it around again and redo the inside. It's too nice to waste the rest of it.
