I ran the motor with no blade. It ran smoothly but I could hear something on the fan end. I pulled the rear bell off and ran it again and the sound was gone. The inside of the bell showed a tiny kiss mark, so the fan is not quite straight enough. But rather than try to straighten it further, I put a piece of heavy string between the bell and bearing housing, where the two mate, to act as a gasket. That provided enough clearance for the fan, and it runs quietly now.
I put a 12" blade on the arbor and turned it on. When I turned it off, it spun for 22 seconds before coming to a dead stop. It ran for several minutes before changing the bearings. I'm pleased.
Up next - dust collection.
