Duxxbak composite waterproof decking boards
#3
I noticed a related thread on the forum but it didn’t seem like anyone who may have used this stuff chimed in and that is what I am looking for. The product is a traditional composit deck board product that is channeled and interlocks to supposedly produce a waterproof deck. Important in my application as I want to create living space underneath.

Conceptually, the idea is great but I am concerned there isn’t enough material(due to the channeling) for the stuff to hold up over time. I am installing it at about 2600 feet in the mountains of western Maryland and it can get pretty cold. It does not get hot in the area.  I am concerned about the normal failures as I would have with any pvc or composite decking product. .(cracking, bowing, expanding/contracting)

Does anyone have any personal experience with this stuff?

funny thing I I just watched a youtube video yesterday. perkins bros builders. they were replacing the deck boards on one of their personally owned houses. they were installing duxxback. he mentioned in the video that they really like the product, enough that he was installing it at his own house. seemed like a well designed product to me. as far as mountains go, they live and work in the NC mountains. I suppose the NC mountains get a bit less cold than the maryland mountains but I can't imagine it is that much less. they did mention in the video the special sealant they use. you can't use silicone as over time it separates from the decking material. One thing he did mention is ideally the boards really need to be in a continuous run. Joints are spaces where water can leak, even if the joint is sealed. The company may have a sealer or process to fuse the ends of boards though.
