About 18 months ago we replaced the furnace & heat pump with a new Carrier setup. Part of the "freebies" was a Polarized Media air cleaner instead of the old 20X25 5" Honeywell type. I must admit that the house seems to need cleaning far less with the new setup - less settled dust and dust bunnies.
My question has to do with the replacement filter pads. It came with one installed and an extra box of three (no designation or label on filters or box). Manual says to replace every 3-4 months, but experience shows a lifetime of more like 6 months before any sign of discoloration or debris is visible. So I am approaching the need for more filter pads. The contractor quoted $220 for a box of three, whereas I find them at several places online for around $65 per three. The manufacturer (Pristine Air) cautions against using "clone" pads - something about a carbon strip, but no such thing is visible and their brand is only available through contractors.
What is the best approach here? Suck it up or go with the "clones"?
