A/C Bench is completed..

As in Air Conditioner Bench/Table...

Only Bench I have ever Made, last few years...

Was an English Garden Bench..similar to the one Norm Abram did on the New Yankee Workshop...his was in Teak, mine was in Ash...

All 5 glued up panels have had their clamps removed..

Will need to flatten all 5 up, before the Joinery can start..

It would appear that I have a wee bit of work to do?

Stay tuned..

The Base Panel has now been flattened...not smoothed, just flattened down level, for now...

Have taken the Stanley No. 6c at the diagonals...and a Stanley #1204  for a few high spots on both faces...cleaning things up after a 50 grit Belt sander got done...took about 20 minutes, or so...one panel "done", need to do the other 4 the same way...

Stay tuned...

50 grit was too slow, and made the belt sander overheat....we have ways

36 grit belt from Harbor Freight...had 8 faces to sand down level...the befores..

And, the After...

This is the Back panel, in Soft Maple....the Ash Panels?
The before...

I also took a plane across the grain...

Level out any bumps the sander missed..until..

The Ash panels were flat...then changed out the belt to an 80 Grit..go back all 5 panels until smoothed out, and the deep scratches are gone...I even used the No.80 on a few faces..

Changed out the DULL rip blade ( and tossed it in the trash can) to the 40 tooth Diablo blade..cross cut panels for length and get the ends squared up...the used the same blade to rip panels to their correct width...then, just stacked them all up...

I also cross cut the "Top" and the "Front" for rough length..they are sitting up on top of the pile....then it was time for the broom..

Included in that pile..was where I dumped the bag from the sander...4 times.

Maybe by Tuesday, I might feel up to starting the joinery stuff...falling out of bed this morning, and landing on my left shoulder doesn't help much....sore hip from Spinal Stenosis Lumbar makes things even worse...hell when ya get old, ain't it?

Stay tuned..

Back has it's days...

Ok, figured out the angle for the Bread Box Lid..

Bandsaw the cut lines on both of the side panels....had to double check where the cut lines would wind up...needed to get rid of a couple bad spots, and mark which was the inside face of both panels..

And, for good measure, figured out the "inside" of the Front panel, and lay out the bevel I will need to cut...

Which looks like it will be "Fun" to cut..

Lay out some tools, for Lay out work..

On the back corner of one side panel...laid out for Pins...

Then drew the cut lines..( yes, I do Pins first..YMMV,of course)

Making marks to show me the waste areas...then it was time for a saw to get to work..

Just a Disston No. 4 Backsaw...14" long, 9 ppi...about 8 full strokes per line cut.

Then, it was just a matter of chopping out the waste with a chisel....Trace around each pin and half pin...bandsaw the waste between the tails, trying to stay on the waste side of each line ( fingers in my left hand were trying to cramp up...) then...

When one NEEDS a Mallet AND a block of Hardwood to do a Dry fit..

So, things were trying to cramp up on me...decided one corner done was enough for today...

1st corner done, only 3 more to do...
Stay tuned
