How about a custom branding iron? It might be more than getting medallions but you have it forever.

I like the laser print option. Then you can run off on your laser printer “Hand crafted for the Schmidt Family” and glue it in place. One sheet could yield 20 messages.

I'll be honest, when I first read this, I thought it was going to be a really cheesy approach that looked like a hack-job. But after some googling, I'm pretty impressed with the quality! Who knew you could send wood veneers through an inkjet printer? If using the sheets that Cooler linked to, the only challenge might be cutting the veneer cleanly afterwards. But I'm sure that's doable.

I've thought about this before, and that look just isn't quite what I'm going for. Certainly not a bad approach though.

Use a circle cutter. That way you don’t have to worry about getting things square. I have a Fiskars circle cutter and it works fine. About $15.00 from Amazon.
