RE: Box#3, a bit different sort of box.. - bandit571 - 03-22-2023 Stand/base is installed... [attachment=46955] I left a "lip" out in front...to help support the doors.. [attachment=46956] 3 counter sunk 3/4" screws and a bit of glue..set aside while I lay out and install a couple hinges..tools.. [attachment=46964] Normal for hinge work... [attachment=46957] Hinge lay out..then mortise a hinge.. [attachment=46958] Close it up.. [attachment=46959] install the other hinge to this door..then lay the door over on the case.. [attachment=46960] The way this looks, I could just drill 6 pilot holes..and install the door... [attachment=46961] Then see how it will work.. [attachment=46962] Then close the door.. [attachment=46963] will install door #2 tomorrow... Stay tuned.. RE: Box#3, a bit different sort of box.. - Bill Holt - 03-23-2023 Nice shape on the stand. Did I miss something along the way? I have a feeling this box is not for the shop. RE: Box#3, a bit different sort of box.. - stav - 03-23-2023 Wow, that took an unexpected turn with the legs. I'm liking it quite a bit. RE: Box#3, a bit different sort of box.. - bandit571 - 03-23-2023 Hmmm, since most of the Tea I use, comes in bags in a box...figured this would be a way to store them..besides strewn all over the Kitchen....Could even store the "Fake" Sugar? Thinking of adding a bevel to the outside edges of the doors? Door #2 install today....IF the Dungeon Creek doesn't rise up to meet me... Tea? Black Tea...with a shot of Irish Creamer ( that I keep in the fridge) I prefer Irish, my son prefer English Black Tea. Stay tuned... RE: Box#3, a bit different sort of box.. - bandit571 - 03-24-2023 Dungeon Creek kind of fizzled out... [attachment=46978] Door#2 has been installed.. [attachment=46979] Had to add tenons to the knobs....package said 1/4" tenons...holes in the knobs were a bit too small,, reduced the piece of 1/4" dowel down to match the hole in the back of the knob, then match a drill bit to the re-sized dowel.. [attachment=46980] Drill the 2 holes for the knobs, and glue them in place...and add a latch.. [attachment=46981] Starting to look a bit better.. [attachment=46982] One last step..involves a block plane called "Boy-Proof".. [attachment=46983] Stanley No. 118, cutting bevels... [attachment=46984] Them corners were a bit tricky, though.... Has been sanded to 220 grit...awaiting a finish, of some sort....will also be finishing the first 2 boxes in Witch's Brew... Stay tuned.. RE: Box#3, a bit different sort of box.. - bandit571 - 03-25-2023 Another site's poster seemed to think that those 1/4" thick Ash feet were a bit too flimsy....and needed "stretchers" added...so... [attachment=46992] A stretcher for each end....angled, a bevel where it lands...and a curve so it doesn't show , then.. [attachment=46993] One in the center....all three are glued in place. Boxes #1 and #2? [attachment=46994] Were given a coat of Witch's Brew, then wiped down...allowed to dry for a few hours...then.. [attachment=46995] Given one coat of... [attachment=46996] Amber Shellac..... Debate now is about whether to Witch's Brew the Tea Cabinet, then shellac....or...just 3 or 4 coats of Amber Shellac....stuff is a 2 pound cut right out of the can. we'll see...stay tuned... RE: Box#3, a bit different sort of box.. - bandit571 - 03-25-2023 The proper way to open a can of finish.. [attachment=46997] Then do the insides of the case first... [attachment=46998] Then the sides.. [attachment=46999] then the outside front.. [attachment=47000] Couldn't remove the glare, no matter where I placed the camera... Had a couple visitors.. [attachment=47001] Checking out the new home? Stay tuned...going to try a few more coats of Amber Shellac...320 grit between each coat? RE: Box#3, a bit different sort of box.. - bandit571 - 03-26-2023 Tea Cabinet is now sitting on the Kitchen Counter....right beside the Toaster....went with 2 coats of Amber Shellac, 2 pound cut. Sanded to 320 between the two coats... Calling this one done....thanks for looking in! RE: Box#3, a bit different sort of box.. - MarkSingleton - 03-27-2023 Thanks for another great one Bandit. RE: Box#3, a bit different sort of box.. - Bill Holt - 03-28-2023 Bandit, your builds are greatly appreciated. |
