My chairmaking days - Paul K. Murphy - 05-27-2016 Chairmaking was how I got my introduction into the trade. From 1981-1987 I built hundreds of Queen Anne style chairs. Some of you know this, I've just never been able to show photographs. Re: My chairmaking days - Paul K. Murphy - 05-27-2016 Here is a shot of some Hepplewhite style chairs I made. This is from the early days of my new (at the time) cabinet shop. My client had an Italian Neo-Classical card table. It was typical of Italian work of that era to be of walnut construction. Hepplewhite chairs were what was called for, but walnut instead of mahogany. I constructed walnut Hepplewhites as if they had been constructed in Italy. A spoon back is wrong for Neo-Classical, but the client wanted that. Re: My chairmaking days - barryvabeach - 05-27-2016 Paul, nice work. I could never get motivated to do the work need to make a chair, much less a set. Re: My chairmaking days - Shovel Man - 05-31-2016 Hundreds !!! There are a lot of lucky owners out there. |
