My chairmaking days
#5
Chairmaking was how I got my introduction into the trade. From 1981-1987 I built hundreds of Queen Anne style chairs.
Some of you know this, I've just never been able to show photographs.

Here is a shot of some Hepplewhite style chairs I made.
This is from the early days of my new (at the time) cabinet shop. My client had an Italian Neo-Classical card table. It was typical of Italian work of that era to be of walnut construction. Hepplewhite chairs were what was called for, but walnut instead of mahogany.
I constructed walnut Hepplewhites as if they had been constructed in Italy. A spoon back is wrong for Neo-Classical, but the client wanted that.
