sanding between coats of maloof poly/oil - mikey2222 - 06-13-2016 Hi all, Just finished applying the first coat of maloof poly/oil to a cherry cabinet. Hoping the finishing experts here can tell me the correct procedure to follow before adding additional coats, especially if I need to sand between coats. Thanks Mikey Re: sanding between coats of maloof poly/oil - Scoony - 06-13-2016 I have not used that finish, but I have used maloof style varnish/oil mix and I will burnish with gray scotchbrite pads. Last few coats get applied with a white scotchbrite pad. The finish sets up more quickly as you apply additional coats. Re: sanding between coats of maloof poly/oil - mikey2222 - 06-13-2016 Do you mean you use green scotchbrite pads instead of sandpaper between coats? and the white pads instead of cloth? I've never used them before Re: sanding between coats of maloof poly/oil - Scoony - 06-15-2016 Yes, but not the green ones, the gray ones. They manufacture several colors. Maroon Green Gray/Grey (depending on what side of the pond) White I know the white is the finest and the gray is equivalent to 0000 steel wool. Not sure about the green or maroon but they are courser. Re: sanding between coats of maloof poly/oil - mikey2222 - 06-15-2016 Thanks, Scoony |
